Combining education with fun, this three-day camp will insure that kids learn the fundamentals of kayaking, ocean safety, and teamwork. Through a series of educational skill-building games, children will become comfortable out in the water, learn to how gauge factors such as swell, currents, and wind to determine ocean safety, and visit the local kelp beds for a truly memorable swim among the friendly critters of the Monterey Bay National Marine sanctuary. If your child is a graduate of Kids Kayak Camp and is looking for more fun and increased kayaking skills then they should give Advanced Kayak Camp a try. Our experienced instructors will teach advanced paddling techniques while participating in teambuilding and games. Students will also learn how to navigate a kayak through the surf zone during the beach entry and exit portion of the camp. Advanced Kayak Camp is a great way to increase your child’s confidence in a kayak while enjoying the beautiful Santa Cruz coast from the water. Maximum: 10 participants, Minimum: 4 participants.

This fun 2-day class starts with a review of basic paddling and rescue techniques in the Santa Cruz harbor. Once students are comfortable handling their kayaks we’ll head into the bay for a tour of the local kelp beds and marine life. On the second day we’ll paddle over to a local beach for an adventurous day learning how to handle kayaks in the surf zone and launching them from the beach. The Elkhorn Slough Outdoor School combines the fun and excitement of kayaking in the Elkhorn Slough with the intriguing exploration of beach-hiking around the Monterey Bay’s costal dunes. With content modeled around the California Education Standards, our trained naturalist guides show groups of children around this magical place while discussing and viewing marine mammals, birds and plants. Groups will also examine coastal ecology and regional history. The goal is to have fun while students gain a greater understanding of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and how that impacts their lives and the place they live.

Send the kids to the beach for an awesome day of fun, friends, games and a whole lot of boogie boarding! Our gracious hosts will treat the kids to a great day at Twin Lakes Beach while providing all the supervision and experience needed to make the surf a fun place to play. A quick orientation will be followed by a lesson in ocean safety and surf etiquette then it’s time to grab a boogie and hit the waves! Healthy snack and water provided.

Come visit the hidden treasure of the Elkhorn Slough. Located in Moss Landing, this seemingly small slough stretches 7 miles inland from the beginning of the Monterey Submarine Canyon. The Elkhorn Slough is abundant with life ranging from minute creatures to harbor seals, sea otters and an array of shorebirds. The Elkhorn Slough, which is protected from the large swells of the Monterey Bay, is a perfect introduction to sea kayaking and marine wildlife for your whole family.

Join us for the experience of a lifetime as we watch the sun set and the moon rise over the Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz all while paddling double sea-kayaks. Our focus for this trip is to enjoy the sunset and the first light of the full moon as it shimmers on the water. We will return to the dock just as darkness settles in. This slower-paced tour for families and children requires no previous kayaking experience. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Please bring cookies to share and water.
